 Blepharoplasty TREATMENT OVERVIEW

Eyelid Surgery or Blepharoplasty is an operation to remove sagging skin and bags from around the eyes and correct any puffiness to give a brighter, rejuvenated, and open-eyed appearance.

The highly-skilled cosmetic surgeons at Bella Vou provide Eyelid Surgery or Blepharoplasty for the upper and lower lids. Blepharoplasty can treat loose skin and bags on the lower eyelids, excess skin and sagging of the upper eyelids, and the loss of the natural upper eyelid crease.

Eyelid surgery can lift, freshen, and smooth the skin around the eyes for a fresher, more youthful appearance.

  • Upper blepharoplasty removes excess skin and fat from the upper eyelids to create a more open and youthful eye appearance. It can also correct drooping or hooded eyelids that may impair vision.
  • Lower blepharoplasty removes or repositions excess skin and fat from the lower eyelids to smooth out wrinkles, dark circles, and bags. It can also improve the shape and position of the lower eyelid and the transition to the midface.
  • Cantoplasty modifies the outer corner of the eye to create a more lifted and elongated eye shape. It can also correct downward or outward tilting of the eye that may make one look tired or narrow-eyed.
  • Brow lift surgery raises the eyebrows and forehead to reduce the appearance of sagging, frowning, or ageing. It can also enhance the results of upper blepharoplasty by lifting the brow and reducing the ‘hood effect’.

The specialist cosmetic surgeon at Bella Vou will examine your bone structure, brow and lid position, skin elasticity, and the thickness of your skin. This will help to determine what will be the most appropriate surgery for your eyes so that you get the changes you want.

HEALING & SCAR PROGRESSION

Scars are a natural part of the healing process. The goal is to make your scar as small and discreet as possible. It is important to remember that cosmetic surgery scars and healing progression can vary depending on the type of procedure and the individual's healing process.

It is important to follow your surgeon's post-operative instructions carefully and attend all follow-up appointments to ensure the best possible healing and cosmetic results.

Gabriella's Eyelid Surgery Story

YOUR SIMPLE
5 STEP
JOURNEY

YOUR SIMPLE 5 STEP JOURNEY

Step 1. Free, no-obligation consultation

Bella Vou offers every client a free consultation with an expert, accredited cosmetic surgeon. There is no obligation to proceed to treatment. The consultation is an opportunity to discuss any concerns you have with your eyes, and receive an impartial professional opinion about whether Eyelid Surgery can help you get the appearance you desire. Mr Amir Nakhdjevani says:

‘We make sure that we advise people correctly about whether surgery is right for them. We treat everyone as if they were our family. At Bella Vou, we never pressurise people or try to sell procedures. It's always about giving an honest opinion and honest advice.’

Step 2. Meet your surgeon

You will be offered a further appointment with your surgeon before proceeding to Blepharoplasty. This will give you a chance to find out more about the procedure and to ask any questions you may have.

Step 3. Preparation for Blepharoplasty

You’ll be given individual pre-operative advice to reduce your chance of bleeding or infection and support your healthy recovery.

It’s important to let your surgeon know if you’re on any prescription or over-the-counter medications. You may be asked to stop taking aspirin or anti-inflammatory tablets, which can increase the risk of bruising. It's also important to stop smoking cigarettes and e-cigarettes before and after surgery because they can disrupt the healing process.

On the day of your surgery, you’ll be welcomed to Bella Vou, given a gown to wear and escorted to the state-of-the-art operating theatre. As you'll be awake for your procedure, your surgeon will greet you, explain what will happen, and offer reassurance throughout the operation.

Step 4. What happens during Blepharoplasty surgery?

The procedure will depend on whether you are having Upper or Lower Eyelid Surgery. However, before both operations, the surgeon will cleanse the skin, then inject local anaesthetic so that the area is completely numb. You will feel some movement and pressure during the procedure, but it will be pain-free.

Upper Eyelid Surgery: The surgeon makes an incision along one of the natural lines and creases in the lid, to camouflage any scarring. Any excess fat is removed; the loose muscle and skin are pulled tightly and sutured into place. Any excess skin is trimmed away. Finally, fine stitches are used to close the wound.

Lower Eyelid Surgery: A cut is made along the lower lash line to minimize scarring. Excess fat and loose skin are excised, the fat pads are lifted, and the contour between the lower eyelid and the cheeks is smoothed. Fine sutures are used to stitch the wound closed.

Step 5. Recovery from a Blepharoplasty

You will usually be able to go home on the day of the procedure, with no drains or drips. Swelling and bruising are normal after Blepharoplasty because the skin is thin and delicate. The staff at Bella Vou will offer analgesia, carefully monitor your recovery, and provide support every step of the way.

After one week, the nurse and wound care specialist will check your scars and remove any sutures. Most people find that bruising and swelling fades by a week to ten days. The team will offer guidance about how to safely conceal any bruising as you recover.

At around six weeks, your surgeon will check your progress and ensure that you are healthy and happy with your results. However, the Bella Vou staff are always available if you have any questions or concerns between appointments.
