Hagen is a highly-qualified consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon who since becoming a consultant in 2012 has held NHS positions as Clinical Lead for plastic surgery; Associate Divisional Director in Head & Neck; Associate Divisional Director in Private Healthcare and as Surgical Specialty Lead of the Eastern Region for the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) amongst others.
Whilst having achieved a PhD, he has been published in a number of peer reviewed medical journals, international presentations, medical book chapters. He has also completed several peer reviews for leading medical journals.
Hagen has also enjoyed extensive media coverage including publications about Jacquie Beltrao, Toni Goldenberg and Gary Edwards; publications in Harper’s Bazaar; the “Medical Show” and on Star Radio, “Bizarre ER” and on BBC3 and as an expert commentator for “When Plastic Surgery Goes Horribly Wrong” on Channel 5.
He is on the GMC’s specialist register for plastic surgery and the Royal College of Surgeons’ register for Certified Cosmetic Surgeon, he is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh (FRCS Plast), Fellow of the European Board of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (FEBOPRAS), member of BAAPS and BAPRAS and an international member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).
His private practice is solely focussed on aesthetic procedures with a special interest in facial surgery, breast procedures and labiaplasty operations.

After having multiple facial surgeries (brow lift, cheek lift, and neck lift) with Hagen Schumacher at Bella Vou, and being very happy with the results, I decided to go ahead with a rhinoplasty. Of all the procedures I’d had, this was the one I was most concerned about, as the nose is such a central part of the face. I didn’t want a trendy or unnatural look, just my own nose, slightly reworked to suit the rest of my features. I discussed this with Hagen and showed him a few reference photos of how I hoped it could look. I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome. I’m currently eight weeks post-op, and although there is still some swelling, the shape is already exactly what I wanted. My nose still looks like mine, just more balanced and refined. My neck lift was also exceptional, and my jaw and chin area are significantly improved. Hagen’s qualifications speak for themselves, but what makes his work stand out is his eye for detail and proportion. He always takes a conservative approach, and absolutely nothing on my face looks overdone or unnatural. He also guarantees his work and addresses any concerns or revisions without question. This, in my view, is incredibly important, as results aren’t always exactly as hoped the first time, and despite best efforts, revisions are sometimes necessary. I also want to thank the wider team at Bella Vou. Julia Ramos, my patient coordinator, has been excellent throughout. Any questions or issues were handled straight away. I developed a mild skin infection and sent photos to Hagen, who immediately issued a prescription. Julia then arranged for it to be sent to my local pharmacy. Hagen and Julia work seamlessly together. The rest of the staff are also fantastic, from reception to theatre staff, and also the wonderful Nikki, who carries out the post-op MLD. I recently had another surgery with Hagen Schumacher at Bella Vou to address what he identified as dynamic chin ptosis. I was happy with my chin at rest, but when I smiled, it would drop and make my face appear longer. Hagen explained that this was due to excess tissue and age, and he recommended a procedure to correct it. The results have been wonderful. Now, when I smile, my chin stays defined and no longer droops. This was combined with chin liposuction, and I now have the most refined chin contour I’ve ever had. I also want to note that this was the first time I was awake during surgery, which made me a bit nervous at first. However, Hagen was incredibly reassuring. He made sure I was comfortable, offered to pause or stop if needed, and I felt calm and in control throughout. I truly can’t thank him enough for his skill and patient care. Hagen has been very informative about the Rhinoplasty procedure and he as well as all the staff at Bella Vou have been extremely kind and supportive throughout my experience. They go all out to ensure I am as comfortable as possible and even sent me home with a goody bag after my surgery. My surgery went extremely well. Usually after anaesthesia, I feel awful and groggy but after this op, I felt amazing. I’m not sure what they are doing differently to the NHS but it was a much better experience than I’ve ever had before. The follow ups have been highly informative and relaxing. They have called to check in a couple times and even sent a beautiful bouquet of flowers whilst I was recovering. I have hated my ear since I was 12 when I had an operation to remove the parotid gland there. I always felt they sewed the ear back on wrong. It no longer had a lobe like the other one and I just thought it looked deformed. I didn’t think there was anything to be done about it, so just grew my hair and always made sure there was hair hiding it if anyone took photos. Fast forward 35 years and a friend suggested Bella Vou. To just go and discuss if anything could be done. I looked into it and thought the only option was rebuilding an earlobe so, I booked to see Hagen Schumacher. I was really nervous but he instantly put me at my ease. He also instantly saw what my real issue was and how to solve it. Fat transfer (from my stomach area) to where my parotid gland used to be. At no charge he injected some saline into my face to give me an impression of what results I could get. I was just so impressed with his solution. I had the procedure done as I had total confident in Hagen and his team. I am really happy with the result. My ears will never match totally, but I no longer feel so self conscious about people looking at my ear. I am even considering getting them pierced.

… Numerous things resulted in me having my surgery at Bella Vou. When I first started looking at UK surgeons, a significant number of them wanted a fee for a consultation with a surgeon… Bella Vou does not charge for a consultation. I believe the charge is a form of pressure to commit, dressed up as some ethical decision… This was the first thing that made me consider Bella Vou…I then contacted Bella Vou and went from there. They are clear that you can see the surgeon initially remotely; however, they will not proceed with surgery without seeing you in person—how it should be!… A week before, I was sent a detailed email with all the requirements for me pre-operatively. Whilst they stated there may be a charge at this point, the option to back out from the surgery was still available. There was never any pressure to commit… After five hours of surgery, I came around in my suite. I was initially in a lot of pain and had severe swelling, resulting in both my eyes being closed—I was unable to see. The nurses, again, were outstanding. They worked tirelessly to help me get my pain under control, which took a fair bit of work! Despite the surgery only being booked for the day and with most staff having gone home, there was not a hint of them trying to get me discharged, and they were happy to stay and chat with me and ensure my pain was under control before I left. I cannot thank them enough for this. I wish I could remember names, but I was a bit out of it!… I cannot fault Bella Vou at all. Every single touchpoint for the customer has been considered; not a thing was missed or overlooked, and I felt entirely confident they and Hagen would be there to support me post-operation as much as I required. They absolutely deserve their “outstanding” CQC rating (something else that drew me here) and demonstrate a masterclass in customer service. They deserve to do well with this approach… I cannot recommend them highly enough, and you will be in the best possible hands choosing Bella Vou for your surgery.

I attended quite a few appointments with Hagen before committing to my surgery, as although I had wanted to have Rhinoplasty for the many years I was anxious about the actual procedure. Hagen explained everything in a methodical way, answering all of my questions and concerns re pre and post surgery clearly and honestly. I was extremely nervous on the day of my procedure but Hagen and Jade (assisting nurse) were masters at keeping the conversation flowing and before I knew it the procedure was finished. It is exactly 2 weeks today that I had my upper eyelid surgery and my eyes look fantastic. All bruising has completely disappeared. In fact all bruising had disappeared after 7 days. I would highly recommend following the after care instructions given as I personally feel that the cold compress helped me heal as quickly as I did. I would also recommend the dissolvable stitches (Hagen only uses these) as I have compared my healing to a friends (same procedure) who had removable stitches and mine healed so much quicker. I cannot recommend this procedure enough to anyone thinking of having it. It really has made such a huge difference and is basically a very quick and pain free procedure. Just go for it.

I am only seven days post-rhinoplasty and so far my experience has been great. I had two appointments with Hagen prior to my surgery and was able to contact him at any point with any questions. Wow, what can I say Hagen has literally changed my life! I did so much research and had previous quotes which were crazy prices… As soon as I spoke with Hagen I instantly felt at ease and comfortable telling him my embarrassing issues. I had sent over some pictures just so he had an idea and he explained what he would do and I was happy with his recommendation to go with the wedge technique… Recovery was hard the first 2 weeks I literally stayed in bed and only moved to go to the toilet or shower. Icing and strong painkillers help massively. I was back to work on the 14th day. I was uncomfortable sitting and had limited mobility but I was ok. Every day after that I was improving and the swelling was going down. I had my follow-up FaceTime appointment with Hagen at 4 weeks post-op. I had no concerns and was extremely happy with how I was healing. He said I was fine to start back exercising running/biking and even sex. Everyone will heal differently so you will need to listen to your body and do things in your own time. I’m thankful recovery went well for me, I’m now 8 weeks post-op and feel great. I’m beyond happy with the results and you don’t even see the final result until 6 months. I feel so confident and I guess normal after feeling self-conscious and uncomfortable most of my life. Very impressed with Dr Schumacher. I initially wanted a full brow lift but after a consultation, Dr Schumacher suggested the direct brow lift as less invasive, less downtime and more affordable. I was nervous upon arriving for the procedure, but was soon put at ease by himself and his lovely nurse Lorraine, she allowed me to hold her hand throughout! I had a local anaesthetic, the whole procedure was finished within two hours and totally pain free. I initially bought music to listen to but ended up just chatting! Ever since I was around 14 I noticed that I wasn’t comfortable with my vagina. And felt that something wasn’t right, I was uncomfortable in clothes etc and when I looked in the mirror I just wanted to cry. From my 20’s I researched Labiaplasty but always thought I would not be able to afford it so I would have to suffer forever. I came across a review of real self and then was added to a WhatsApp group and got talking to some girls who had surgery from Hagen or were booked in. This was 2018 and we still talk now (new friends and vagina). Dr Schumacher performed a direct brow lift in February 2019. I had started to have drooping of the eyebrows…and Anti Wrinkle Injections can only do so much! So Hagen suggested a direct brow lift which I hadn’t heard of before. The whole procedure took approx 1 hour under local anaesthetic and was painless. Hagen was very professional throughout the entire procedure , explaining everything, asked if I wanted some music playing, which helped relax me even more! He made me feel comfortable and at ease. He was friendly and approachable from the first initial appointment to the review appointment. He has an incredibly nice manner, not at all arrogant and is humble with it! I’ve had Anti Wrinkle Injections by Hagen twice which I have to say has been the best outcome than any other practitioner before. It has been 15 months since I had labiaplasty performed by Hagan. I had the wedge procedure performed under local anaesthetic. It has been a life-changing experience, to say the least. My top tips are: 1. Be very liberal with the numbing spray!! I didn’t feel a thing as the spray is effective when dowst in it. I sprayed from my fupa to my anus and all in between. You don’t feel anything, just some mild tugging and a touch of anxiety which the nurse and Hagan helped to subside. 2. Under NO circumstances drive yourself home afterwards. 3. Wipe your calendar for at least 3 days minimum. 4. Soak pads in cooled boiled water, freeze and use to cool the burning sensation. 5. Put a pillow under your knees and stay topped up with mild painkillers. 6. Use a jug of warm water to dilute urine. I used a capful of Dettol in the jug once a day after the cream ran out. 7. Be prepared for some interestingly shaped swelling which can still happen months down the line. My sex life and self-esteem has increased dramatically. I have a new partner who did not know I had any work performed until I told him 4 months into our relationship. I no longer have to think or worry about my labia. It looks perfect in every way! I had no loss of sensation.

I’ve been considering Labiaplasty for around 10 years since I was about 14 after discomfort wearing certain pants, playing sport & even just walking frustrated me daily. I also have found it super embarrassing to feeling self-conscious when wearing bikinis and never letting my boyfriend of 10 years see me naked. I finally took the plunge and emailed Hagen about a month ago & I am so glad I did as I’m only under 12 hours post op and I feel so much happier already. When I turned up yesterday for my surgery I was shaking and Hagen and his assistant Corinne who held my hand were amazing, I talked the whole time which distracted me but I can honestly say the pain of the local anaesthetic was non-existent after using the numbing spray & I felt nothing during the procedure. I couldn’t believe how quickly it was over and done with and I was on my way! The pain has been more manageable than I expected and I’m ready to rest for a few days in bed before I attempt to get up and move more later this week. Dr Schumacher is very professional and his bedside manner was faultless. He listened to my concerns before and during the procedure and addressed them checking each step of the way that I was happy. This was possible as it was carried out under a local anaesthetic. Having never had a local anaesthetic I was somewhat apprehensive but it was painless and it was nice to be able to communicate whilst the procedure was taking place. Emma, Dr Schumacher’s assistant was very nice, calming and happy to help, as little, or as much as you felt you needed. Dr Schumacher was very thorough with the advice given and made sure that I was fully aware that if I had any concerns I could call/email/send a photo or have an appointment. I was provided with a goody bag to take away which consisted of sanitary towels, painkillers, instant ice packs, the ointment required for next 2 days and information relating to aftercare etc. Although I found the pain quite intense once the local anaesthetic wore off last night, I took some strong pain relief and slept well. I have had some bleeding but minimal swelling currently and already so amazed with my results. Hagen really cares… All of my nerves went away and the procedure itself was completely pain-free!! The drive home was bearable, don’t get me wrong I could feel the local wearing off and I have had to have pain relief every 4 hours hence why I am writing this review at 4:30am but please do not let this put you off!! I am yet to use the loo (dreading it slightly) but also looking forward to getting the cold shower on there!! I will update as the days go on but have been told to not even look down there for a couple of weeks!!

I am unfortunately a case of previously diving into surgery without doing my research, and this time I ensured I would do all my homework before making the same mistake twice. I ended up with a small list of surgeons whom I was most impressed by. Due to my research, I knew I would be looking at around the 4K mark, and accepted that, figuring out how certain I was about wanting this procedure. I had 3 consultations before meeting Haagen Schumacher – he immediately made me feel at ease and had more before and after photos than the others (which all showed unreal results by the way). The photos, his knowledge and demeanour are what swayed it for me. Now please understand when people say you get what you pay for – this is not always the case… If I was in any way uncertain whether Mr Schumacher was the right surgeon for me I would not have proceeded to allow him to do my surgery. Simple as that. I couldn’t recommend him any more highly. I am 2 months post-op and he has continued his excellent care and follow-up’s throughout. So happy and my results are exactly as I’d hoped for.

Dr Schumacher was recommended to me by a friend and I can’t thank my friend enough for the recommendation. Not only did I have a professional consultation, but Dr Schumacher kept in contact with me right up to the operation date and afterwards. He really gives a personal approach and makes himself available to answer questions at any time… On the day of the op I was his last surgery of the day and even though he lives over an hour away from the hospital, he stayed at the hospital during my recovery period to ensure I was ok. Even the nurses commented that this is over and above what many other surgeons do and shows he is a good Doctor. He also took the time to contact my partner to let him know I was ok. His after care didn’t stop there as Dr Schumacher rang the hospital that night to check I was ok before he went to bed, and rang them again first thing the next morning to check I was ok before they discharged me… I wish I had found him years ago as had been putting this surgery off for fear of anaesthetic!… I can’t recommend Dr Schumacher enough, The surgery went perfectly and looks great…

Hi everyone! I had my labiaplasty yesterday with Dr Hagen and it literally changed my life! I was suffering from this since I was a teenager and yesterday I was freaking out! I was quite nervous and happy at the same time as I wanted do this operation for a long time. I was shaking at first, but I didn’t feel ANYTHING. At first, I used a spray to make all the area fall asleep and then Dr Hagen gave me some injections which I didn’t feel because the spray, and then I was talking all day long. I had a breast reduction last week with dr Schumacher and I couldn’t be happier. I have been putting this surgery off for a very long time. I was a 34 L and was in agony with my back, neck and shoulders. I have seen many surgeons over the years and never felt comfortable with any of them… When I met Dr Schumacher I immediately felt at ease and very comfortable with him. I told him my worries about surgery and Dr Schumacher gave me exercises to do at home to help with anxiety for the day of surgery. On my surgery day I saw Dr Schumacher and he made me feel at ease and he made me feel really calm. I saw Dr boon who was the anesthetist and again told him my concerns and he immediately started making me laugh and made me feel really safe and comfortable with him. I went down to theatre and Dr Schumacher, Dr Boon and his assistant made me laugh up until I went to sleep, I didn’t even realise that Dr Boon had put my IV in and before I knew it I was going to sleep. The whole process was a lot less painful then I imagined, it was easy and quite relaxing. After having multiple facial surgeries (brow lift, cheek lift, and neck lift) with Hagen Schumacher at Bella Vou, and being very happy with the results, I decided to go ahead with a rhinoplasty. Of all the procedures I’d had, this was the one I was most concerned about, as the nose is such a central part of the face. I didn’t want a trendy or unnatural look, just my own nose, slightly reworked to suit the rest of my features. I discussed this with Hagen and showed him a few reference photos of how I hoped it could look. I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome. I’m currently eight weeks post-op, and although there is still some swelling, the shape is already exactly what I wanted. My nose still looks like mine, just more balanced and refined. My neck lift was also exceptional, and my jaw and chin area are significantly improved. Hagen’s qualifications speak for themselves, but what makes his work stand out is his eye for detail and proportion. He always takes a conservative approach, and absolutely nothing on my face looks overdone or unnatural. He also guarantees his work and addresses any concerns or revisions without question. This, in my view, is incredibly important, as results aren’t always exactly as hoped the first time, and despite best efforts, revisions are sometimes necessary. I also want to thank the wider team at Bella Vou. Julia Ramos, my patient coordinator, has been excellent throughout. Any questions or issues were handled straight away. I developed a mild skin infection and sent photos to Hagen, who immediately issued a prescription. Julia then arranged for it to be sent to my local pharmacy. Hagen and Julia work seamlessly together. The rest of the staff are also fantastic, from reception to theatre staff, and also the wonderful Nikki, who carries out the post-op MLD. I recently had another surgery with Hagen Schumacher at Bella Vou to address what he identified as dynamic chin ptosis. I was happy with my chin at rest, but when I smiled, it would drop and make my face appear longer. Hagen explained that this was due to excess tissue and age, and he recommended a procedure to correct it. The results have been wonderful. Now, when I smile, my chin stays defined and no longer droops. This was combined with chin liposuction, and I now have the most refined chin contour I’ve ever had. I also want to note that this was the first time I was awake during surgery, which made me a bit nervous at first. However, Hagen was incredibly reassuring. He made sure I was comfortable, offered to pause or stop if needed, and I felt calm and in control throughout. I truly can’t thank him enough for his skill and patient care.
