Buccal Fat Removal (cheek slimming)

This is the ideal procedure for those feeling their face is overly round or chubby despite being otherwise slim or fit.

What is Buccal Fat Removal Surgery?

Why have Buccal Fat Removal

The goal of buccal fat removal surgery is to slim down the cheeks, specifically in the area of the cheek hollows. Although a face that is naturally soft and filled out is considered youthful, some people find that their face feels too full, round or even chubby.

What is Buccal Fat?

Buccal Fat Removal (Cheek fat reduction) is so named as it removes the buccal fat pad which is a naturally occurring pad of fat located in the cheek hollow area. The size of the buccal fat pad varies with each individual patient, and it can even vary between the left and right cheeks.

No visible scars

The Buccal fat removal treatment results in no visible scarring as incisions are made inside the mouth near the gum line. Buccal Fat Pad removal surgery is typically not performed in people with thin, narrow faces as removal of the fat may cause the face to look more gaunt with age.

Buccal Fat Removal TREATMENT OVERVIEW

The buccal fat pad is a rounded mass of fat in the middle of the cheek, located between facial muscles, in the hollow area beneath the cheekbone. Buccal fat pads are normal, and everyone has them. However, the size of these varies from person to person. The size of the buccal fat pads affects the shape of the face, with larger buccal fat pads giving the face a more round or fuller appearance. People with small buccal fat pads tend to have a more “V shaped” face. Buccal fat removal is also known as buccal fat extraction, cheek fat pad removal, face fat removal, and cheek fat reduction.

Having large Buccal fat pads can lead to a rounder looking face, but by decreasing the amount of volume in the cheek it highlights the cheekbones while slimming the appearance of the lower face, creating more of a toned overall appearance.

YOUR SIMPLE
5 STEP
JOURNEY

YOUR SIMPLE 5 STEP JOURNEY

Step 1. Free, no-obligation consultation

Bella Vou offers every client a free consultation with an expert, accredited cosmetic surgeon. There's no obligation to proceed to treatment; it's an opportunity to discuss any concerns and receive an impartial professional opinion.

The plastic surgeons will assess your love handles, the volume of fat and the amount of excess skin before suggesting a bespoke treatment plan targeted to your needs.

Mr Amir Nakhdjevani says:

We make sure that we advise people correctly about whether surgery is right for them. We treat everyone as if they were our family. At Bella Vou, we never pressurise people or try to sell procedures. It's always about giving an honest opinion and honest advice.

Step 2. Meet your specialist

During your consultation with the specialist who will perform your Buccal Fat Removal, you are given a chance to find out more about the procedure and ask any questions you like.

Step 3. Preparation for Buccal Fat Removal

You'll be given individual pre-treatment or pre-operative advice to reduce any complications and support your speedy and healthy recovery.

It's important to let your specialist know if you're on any prescription or over-the-counter medications. You may be asked to stop taking aspirin or anti-inflammatory tablets, which can increase the risk of bruising. It's also essential to stop smoking cigarettes and e-cigarettes before and after treatment because they can disrupt the healing process.

On the day of your treatment, the team at Bella Vou will welcome you, give you a gown to wear and escort you to the state-of-the-art treatment suite.

Step 4. What happens during Buccal Fat Removal?

Buccal Fat Removal is carried out under local anaesthetic and on average takes no more than an hour. A small incision is made in each cheek inside the mouth near the gum line, this means that there is no visible scarring. The buccal fat pad is gently removed from each cheek through the incision before fine stitches are used to close the wound. The sutures are dissolvable and usually come out on their own within 1 to 2 weeks.

Step 5. Recovery from Buccal Fat Treatment

You will usually be able to go home on the day of the procedure, with no drains or drips. A small amount of swelling and bruising are normal after Buccal Fat Removal but diligent use of ice packs will dramatically reduce the risk of swelling. Because the stitches are inside your mouth you will need to be on a soft diet for the first week, we will provide you with a mouth wash to use after every meal to reduce the risk of an infection that could be caused by fine particles of food.

The staff at Bella Vou will offer analgesia, carefully monitor your recovery, and provide support every step of the way. After one week, the nurse and wound care specialist will check your scars and healing. Most people find that any bruising and swelling fades by a week to ten days.

At around six weeks, your surgeon will check your progress and ensure that you are healthy and happy with your results. However, the Bella Vou staff are always available if you have any questions or concerns between appointments.
