Scar Clinic

The dedicated Scar Clinic helps support healthy healing. Wound specialists regularly review the healing process and the scar formation to get the optimum results.

NOT TO MENTION...

a more sculpted approach

Bella Vou’s Specialist Consultant Plastic Surgeons use advanced abdominoplasty techniques focused on abdominal contouring, muscle repair, and natural-looking definition. Every procedure is carefully planned around the individual patient, with attention to shape, scar placement, and long-term healing.

Rather than focusing solely on skin removal, the procedure also addresses underlying muscle separation where needed to support a smoother and more balanced abdominal contour. The surgical approach is tailored to each patient to achieve results that look refined, proportionate, and natural.

Advanced surgical techniques are used throughout the procedure to support careful contouring and definition of the abdominal area, alongside lower scar placement and structured aftercare. The overall approach is designed to prioritise both aesthetic outcome and patient recovery.

Muscle repair

The abdominal muscles play an important role in supporting the overall contour of the abdomen. During tummy tuck surgery, underlying muscle separation can also be repaired where required as part of a comprehensive surgical approach.

At Bella Vou, muscle repair forms an important part of many abdominoplasty procedures. Our Specialist Consultant Plastic Surgeons use advanced techniques to strengthen and support the abdominal wall while helping create smooth, natural-looking contours tailored to each patient.

Stitch sense

Bella Vou’s Specialist Consultant Plastic Surgeons use carefully considered stitching techniques designed to support comfort and recovery following tummy tuck surgery.

Different surgeons may use different approaches to muscle repair and closure. At Bella Vou, individual sutures are placed with precision and attention to detail as part of a tailored surgical plan based on each patient’s anatomy and procedure.

Surgeons use a series of up to 70 carefully placed individual knots to repair the abdominal muscles, minimising the likelihood of the stitches coming undone and preventing the painful sensation of pulling between the top and bottom knots.

Our focus is always on refined surgical technique, patient safety, and supporting a smooth recovery experience wherever possible.

Discreet scars

The Consultant Cosmetic Surgeons at Bella Vou understand the importance of careful scar placement and refined surgical technique during tummy tuck surgery.

Incisions are typically placed as low as possible along the bikini line, with careful attention paid to closure and healing support throughout recovery.

Every patient heals differently, however our approach is designed to support discreet scar placement and natural-looking results.

Better belly buttons

The appearance of the belly button can play an important role in the overall aesthetic result following tummy tuck surgery.

At Bella Vou, careful attention is paid to belly button placement and shaping as part of a tailored surgical approach designed around each patient’s anatomy and goals.

Our Specialist Consultant Plastic Surgeons focus on creating balanced, natural-looking contours while aiming to keep scarring as discreet as possible within the natural folds of the belly button.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

MLD is a physical therapy designed to stimulate lymphatic drainage, reduce swelling and improve healing. At least 3 MLD sessions are included with all Bella Vou tummy tucks to improve recovery and speed up healing.

Overview

TUMMY TUCK Recovery, HEALING & SCAR PROGRESSION

Recovery following tummy tuck surgery is an important part of the overall surgical journey. During the first few weeks, it is normal to experience swelling, bruising, and temporary discomfort as the body begins to heal.

At Bella Vou, patients receive detailed aftercare guidance and ongoing support throughout recovery, with regular follow-up appointments designed to help monitor healing and progress.

Scars will also continue to mature over time. In the early stages, scars may appear more visible before gradually softening and fading as healing progresses. Careful scar management, including protecting the area from sun exposure and following your surgeon’s aftercare advice, can help support the healing process.

It is important to follow your surgeon's post-operative instructions carefully and attend all follow-up appointments to ensure the best possible healing and cosmetic results.

YOUR SIMPLE
5 STEP
JOURNEY

YOUR SIMPLE 5 STEP TUMMY TUCK JOURNEY

1

Step 1. Free, no-obligation consultation

Bella Vou offers complimentary consultations with experienced Consultant Plastic Surgeons to discuss whether tummy tuck surgery may be suitable for you.

Your consultation is an opportunity to talk through your goals, ask questions, and explore the most appropriate treatment approach based on your anatomy, lifestyle, and expectations.

Our surgeons may also discuss advanced technologies and treatment options including Vaser Liposuction, Renuvion skin tightening, and BodyTite, depending on your individual treatment plan.

At Bella Vou, we pride ourselves on offering honest, professional guidance with patient safety, education, and natural-looking results at the centre of every consultation.

2

Step 2. Meet your surgeon

You will be offered a further appointment with your consultant before progressing to surgery to discuss the Tummy Tuck procedure in more detail, as well as details of preparation and recovery. This is a clinical assessment designed to understand your goals, evaluate your suitability, and design a bespoke surgical plan.

During your consultation, your surgeon will:

  • Review your full medical history, including previous surgeries, medications, and health conditions
  • Conduct a physical examination of your abdomen, assessing skin laxity, fat distribution, and muscle separation (diastasis recti)
  • Discuss your aesthetic goals and set realistic expectations
  • Explain the full range of surgical options, including mini, full, and extended abdominoplasty
  • Take clinical measurements and, with your consent, photographs for surgical planning
  • Outline the risks, recovery process, and aftercare requirements
  • Provide a detailed written quote including all fees
3

Step 3. Preparation for Tummy Tuck surgery

Once you decide to proceed, your surgical team will guide you through a pre-operative preparation period, usually 2–4 weeks before your operation date.

The staff at Bella Vou will advise you on any pre-operative preparations to reduce your risk of infection and help your recovery.

  • Medical clearance: Blood tests, ECG (if required), and a health review to confirm you are fit for general anaesthesia
  • Medications review: You will be asked to stop blood thinners, anti-inflammatory drugs, herbal supplements, and any medications that can affect healing — typically 2 weeks before surgery
  • Stop smoking: Smoking significantly increases risks of complications including poor wound healing and infection. You must stop smoking at least 4–6 weeks before and after surgery
  • Weight stability: You should be at or close to your target weight. Significant weight fluctuation after surgery will affect your results
  • Nutrition: Ensure adequate protein intake in the weeks before surgery to support healing
  • Home preparation: Arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for the first 24–48 hours. Set up a comfortable recovery area with pillows, loose clothing, and easy access to necessities
4

Step 4. What happens during Tummy Tuck surgery?

You will be admitted to the Bellavou clinic on the morning of your procedure. A full tummy tuck is performed under general anaesthesia and typically takes 2–3 hours. A mini abdominoplasty may take 1–2 hours.

On arrival, your surgical team will:

  • Complete final consent documentation and answer any last-minute questions
  • Mark the surgical sites with your surgeon while you are standing
  • Administer pre-operative medications and introduce you to your anaesthetist
  • Confirm your surgical plan and take pre-operative photographs

A tummy tuck is performed under general anaesthesia, meaning you will be completely asleep and will feel nothing during the procedure. A specialist anaesthetist will administer and monitor your anaesthesia throughout the operation. The surgeon cleans the skin then makes incisions from hip to hip and around the belly button. The surgeon will place the scars carefully so that they are hidden in the skin's natural folds and creases.

Your consultant will separate the skin from the tissues below, then realign and repair the abdominal muscles. They’ll cut away all the excess fat and skin, create a new hole for the belly button and then stitch this in place.

Finally, the surgeon will pull the skin so that it tight, then stitch the wound closed using sutures that are absorbable and do not need to be removed.

5

Step 5. Recovery from a Tummy Tuck

Following surgery, you will be moved to a private recovery suite where your nursing team will closely monitor your comfort and wellbeing throughout the initial recovery period. Most patients remain in clinic overnight before returning home the following day. Gentle movement is encouraged early in recovery and your team will support you as you begin to mobilise safely after surgery.

Before discharge, you will receive:

  • Guidance on wearing your post-surgical compression garment throughout recovery
  • Detailed drain care instructions where required
  • Personalised aftercare guidance and emergency contact information
  • Prescribed post-operative medications, including pain relief and antibiotics where appropriate
  • A structured follow-up schedule with your nursing team and Consultant Plastic Surgeon to monitor healing and recovery progress
