LABIA Reduction OVERVIEW, FAQS, Pricing

Overview

Labia Minora Reduction or Labiaplasty is an operation to reduce the size of the inner lips of the vulva, the labia minora. During the procedure, the specialist surgeon trims away any excess tissue to leave the area neat, symmetrical, and contained within the outer labia.

The experienced surgeons at Bella Vou provide bespoke Intimate Rejuvenation. Labia Minora Reduction can be an effective stand-alone procedure. It can also be combined with a Clitoral Hood Reduction to remove excess folds of skin, rejuvenate the vulva and create a more harmonious and youthful genital appearance.

FAQs

How do I know which is the best treatment for me?

The specialists at Bella Vou are experts in Intimate Surgery. They will listen to your worries, examine the area, and develop a treatment programme that will address your concerns. The specialists understand that many women feel uncomfortable or embarrassed sharing an intimate problem. They will be professional, sensitive, and supportive throughout.

Is Labia Minora Reduction painful?

The team at Bella Vou is dedicated to ensuring your comfort during treatment. They will apply numbing cream forty minutes before surgery.

They will inject local anaesthetic into the area. They will use a combination of long and short-acting anaesthetics to provide comfort during the procedure. They will also use the anaesthetics to provide comfort for some time after the surgery.

Most patients experience mild discomfort after surgery. However, some women experience burning pain around the area. The team will give you painkillers to help effectively control the pain.

Will my sex life improve?

This is difficult to answer. Sex is not just about anatomy; it's about confidence and relationships. But, an improvement in the aesthetics of the region can increase self-confidence and result in a more positive sexual relationship.

Women who have had Labia Reduction often report increased sensitivity and greater sexual confidence after they have had the operation. There is a minimal risk of decreased sensation, and scarring can occasionally cause discomfort and difficulty during intercourse. Speak to your surgeon about the risks and any worries you have.

Can I have a Labiaplasty if I’m planning a family?

Surgery to your labia does not affect childbirth. If the size and shape of your labia are causing you physical and emotional distress, then Labia Minora Reduction can help. However, pregnancy and childbirth can affect the appearance of your new labia.

How soon can I have sex after Labiaplasty?

You will have to wait at least four weeks before having sex or using a tampon. The surgeon will give you individual advice depending on how the area is healing, and if there are any postoperative complications. With an uneventful recovery, you should be able to resume intercourse after a month.

If you have sex before this stage, the wounds are weak and could open up. The friction that develops during intercourse can break down the healing scars. Engaging in sexual intercourse or intense physical activity shortly after undergoing surgery could lead to an increased risk of complications such as difficulty in healing, infections, and haematomas.

Can the labia grow back after Labia Reduction?

No, the surgery is permanent. Once the size of the labia is reduced, they won’t come back.

Will There Be Discomfort, Bruising Or Swelling, And For How Long?

With any surgery, there can be a degree of swelling and bruising. With a labiaplasty, the swelling can be quite extensive and can last up to a week. This is due to the sensitive tissues in this area of the body. Gravity affects bruises and swelling. The fluid needs to work harder to combat this to drain and back into the abdomen.

If you have the labiaplasty with clitoral hood reduction, then the swelling and discomfort are more significant. On average, most patients can expect to be swollen for up to 10 days for most genital surgical procedures. Changes will be evident shortly after surgery. But it will be several months before you can appreciate the final results.

Is labiaplasty permanent?

Yes, labiaplasty is considered permanent. Once excess tissue is removed, it does not grow back. However, natural aging, hormonal changes, or childbirth may subtly alter the appearance over time.

Does labiaplasty leave scars?

Scarring is minimal and often imperceptible. Skilled surgeons use dissolvable sutures and techniques that hide scars within natural folds. The labial mucosa heals similarly to the inside of the mouth - smooth and barely visible.

What causes large labial folds?

Genetics, hormonal changes, childbirth, aging and lifestyle factors (e.g., cycling, tight clothing) can contribute to labial hypertrophy. It’s also perfectly normal - labia vary widely in size and shape.

How old do I need to be for labiaplasty?

Most surgeons recommend waiting until after puberty is complete, typically age 18 or older. This ensures the labia have finished developing and avoids future changes.

When can I return to work after labiaplasty?

Most people return to desk-based jobs within 5–7 days. If your job involves physical activity, you may need up to 2 weeks off.

Should I avoid tight-fitting clothes after labiaplasty?

Yes, for the first few weeks, wear loose, breathable clothing to reduce friction and promote healing.

Does labiaplasty impact childbirth?

No, labiaplasty does not interfere with pregnancy or vaginal delivery. However, childbirth may stretch or alter the labia again, potentially affecting results.

Will labiaplasty affect my sensitivity?

Not typically. Most patients report no change, or even improved sensation - due to reduced irritation and increased confidence.

Will I lose feeling after labia reduction surgery?

Temporary numbness is common, but permanent loss of sensation is rare. Choosing an experienced surgeon significantly reduces this risk.

What qualifies you for a labiaplasty?

You may be a candidate if you:

  • Experience physical discomfort (chafing, pain during sex or exercise).
  • Feel self-conscious about labial appearance.
  • Have asymmetry or excess tissue due to genetics, aging, or childbirth.
  • Are in good physical and emotional health, with realistic expectations.

How to Prepare and Find a Surgeon?

When considering an intimate procedure, it’s important to feel confident, safe, and fully informed before making your decision. Choosing the right surgeon and clinic can make all the difference in your results and overall experience. Here are some key points to keep in mind:

  • Choose a board-certified surgeon with proven expertise in intimate procedures. At Bella Vou, all our surgeons are highly skilled and internationally recognized.

  • Review before-and-after photos and patient testimonials to understand real outcomes.

  • Confirm that the clinic provides comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative care.

YOUR SIMPLE
5 STEP
JOURNEY

YOUR SIMPLE 5 STEP JOURNEY

1

Step 1. Free, no-obligation consultation

Bella Vou offers every client a free consultation with an expert. The consultation is an opportunity to discuss any concerns you have. Additionally, you can discuss the results you want to achieve. Lastly, you can discuss whether surgery can help you reach those goals.

The expert aesthetic surgeon will sensitively evaluate the proportions and balance of the vulva. They will also assess the location of any excess skin or tissue. In careful consultation with you, they will plan the best treatment to achieve your goals.

This could include Clitoral Hood Reduction, Labiaplasty, or Labia Majora Reduction to ensure the genitals appear balanced, natural, and attractive. Bella Vou will always give you an honest and impartial professional opinion. Mr Amir Nakhdjevani says:

‘At Bella Vou, we never pressurise people or try to sell procedures. It's always about giving an honest opinion and honest advice.’

2

Step 2. Meet your surgeon

You will be offered a further appointment with your surgeon before proceeding to surgery. This will give you a chance to find out more about the procedure. You can understand any risks and complications associated with it. You also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

3

Step 3. Preparation for Labia Minora Reduction

You’ll be given personal pre-operative advice to reduce your chance of bleeding or infection and help your healthy recovery.

Let your surgeon know if you’re on any medications. You may be asked to stop taking aspirin or anti-inflammatory tablets, which can increase the risk of bleeding and bruising. It's also important to stop smoking cigarettes and e-cigarettes before and after surgery because they can affect the healing process.

On the day of your surgery, you’ll be welcomed to Bella Vou. You will be given a gown to wear. You will be escorted to the state-of-the-art operating theatre.

Your surgeon will greet you as you are awake for your procedure. They will explain what will happen during the operation and offer support throughout.

4

Step 4. What happens during Labia Minora Reduction?

Labia Minora Reduction is carried out under local anaesthetic, as a day case. You will be placed in stirrups to allow the surgeon to access the area.

Before treatment, the consultant will apply an anaesthetic cream. They will then carefully inject local anaesthetic to make the area completely numb. You may feel movement, but the procedure will be pain-free.

The consultant will make an incision in the natural folds and creases of the vulva. The scar should be discreet even if you remove all the pubic hair. They will carefully excise the excess labial tissue, to create a natural, symmetrical, and attractive vulva.

The surgeon will close the incisions using fine, absorbable sutures that don’t need to be removed. Finally, a pad will be applied to keep the area clean and collect any blood.

5

Step 5. Recovery from Labia Minora Surgery

You will usually be able to go home on the day of the procedure. The staff at Bella Vou will monitor your recovery and provide support every step of the way.

Some pain, swelling, and bruising are normal with any surgery. In this sensitive area, it can take a week or two to settle. Bella Vou will provide antibiotics to protect against infection, and safe, effective pain relief to maintain your comfort.

You should take time to relax and recover. Most women stay off work for a week. At this stage, the nurse and wound care specialist will check that you're well. They will also inspect your scars.

It’s important to avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting. You shouldn't have sex for at least four weeks to allow the wounds to heal. However, by six weeks, most women have returned to their usual routines. The Bella Vou team is always available if you have any questions or concerns at any time.
