Eyelid Surgery or Blepharoplasty is an operation to remove sagging skin and bags from around the eyes and correct any puffiness to give a brighter, rejuvenated and open-eyed appearance.

- Upper blepharoplasty removes excess skin and fat from the upper eyelids to create a more open and youthful eye appearance. It can also correct drooping or hooded eyelids that may impair vision.
- Lower blepharoplasty removes or repositions excess skin and fat from the lower eyelids to smooth out wrinkles, dark circles, and bags. It can also improve the shape and position of the lower eyelid and the transition to the midface.
- Cantoplasty modifies the outer corner of the eye to create a more lifted and elongated eye shape. It can also correct downward or outward tilting of the eye that may make one look tired or narrow-eyed.
- Brow lift surgery raises the eyebrows and forehead to reduce the appearance of sagging, frowning, or ageing. It can also enhance the results of upper blepharoplasty by lifting the brow and reducing the ‘hood effect’.

Most people who undergo eyelid surgery are usually 35 years or older, but you may opt for it sooner if you have inherited droopy or baggy eyelids.

This depends upon the extent of the surgery and the patient's preference:
Local Anesthesia: Some less invasive eyelid procedures can be done with local anesthesia alone. In this case, you remain awake, but you won't feel pain due to the numbing of the area.
General Anesthesia: With general anesthesia, you are completely unconscious and unaware during the surgery.
We recommend: Eyelid surgery is easily achievable under Local Anaesthetic as an outpatient procedure for most patients. If you are nervous or unsure about this, a general anaesthetic or sedation can be used. Most of Bella Vou's patients find the experience relaxing and stress-free. Having a patient that is awake helps surgeons get to know patients even better and build a bond with them, which isn't possible with a General Anaesthetic. We are careful to make sure the area is completely numb, and we chat throughout the procedure so that each individual is confident that they are in safe hands.
A surgeon will typically complete an upper blepharoplasty in around 45 minutes to one hour. For a combined Upper and Lower Blepharoplasty surgery, you can expect surgery to take around two hours, depending on whether fat is redistributed or additional work performed.

Any surgery around the eye will invariably result in bruising and swelling as the skin here is very thin. The way the body heals is dependent on several factors, such as the way the skin is handled by the surgeon, the extent of surgery, and your skin type. Most patients tend to develop bruising that fades by 7-10 days.
You may feel comfortable enough to go out in public and resume your work after 10 to 14 days, depending on your job and your preference. You may still have some slight bruising and swelling after two weeks, but it will soon disappear.
There is usually very little sensory change in the area following Blepharoplasty. You will feel numb following the surgery due to the effects of the anaesthetic. This will last for a few hours following the surgery. Your eyes will be swollen and look slightly pulled initially, due to the swelling following the surgery. As the swelling resolves, the eyes will regain their natural shape.
To heal well after eyelid surgery, you need to sleep on your back and keep your head above your heart for at least 7-1o days. Use pillows or a recliner to stay elevated and prevent rolling over. Practice this sleeping position before the surgery to ensure you have covered all bases and that you are able to sleep without rolling over.

After considerable research on Upper Blepharoplasty providers, I decided on Bella Vou… Dr Amir went through the full pre-op to post-op process with me and I was under no pressure to make any decision. I did decide to proceed and on the day of the surgery I was understandably nervous but Dr Amir talked me through the whole process letting me know that everything was going to plan which was a great comfort. As soon as the anesthetic was administered I felt no pain at all and the operation was over in less than an hour. During those first 2 weeks, I did have a few panic moments mainly regarding my upper eyelids, I kept noticing little imperfections which I tried not to obsess about; now they have had time to settle down those imperfections are not noticeable but at the time when I mentioned my concerns, I was given reassurances that if those imperfections were still there after I had had time to heal more, they would try to address them. I have very few wrinkles and felt that my eye area was the one thing making me look older and constantly tired. I did lots of research on various clinics, and came across Bella Vou. The whole process took around an hour and a half and I left the surgery feeling absolutely fine. I took painkillers that afternoon but didnt need any others after Day 1. I know the healing process can take up to 6 months, but I am so happy already and don’t know why I left it so long to have this done. A very down-to-earth talented surgeon who really just wants to do his best for you. I had wanted this done for a while as my eyes were getting heavier and harder to conceal with makeup. I am not a nervous person but was nervous about this surgery because it’s the eyes, so made sure I took my time selecting the right surgeon. So this is more psychological than physical although it does have physical knock-on effects: Before my blepharoplasty, I would have sleepless nights writing about how much worse my baggy eyes would look without a good night’s sleep. So this is more psychological than physical although it does have physical knock-on effects: Before my blepharoplasty, I would have sleepless nights writing about how much worse my baggy eyes would look without a good night’s sleep. The worrying would cause me NOT to sleep thereby increasing my anxiety. It was a vicious circle. This has been for years. A very down-to-earth talented surgeon who really just wants to do his best for you. I had wanted this done for a while as my eyes were getting heavier and harder to conceal with makeup. I am not a nervous person but was nervous about this surgery because it’s the eyes, so made sure I took my time selecting the right surgeon. I had quite bad swelling at first which is quite common for me from past procedures. Amir reassured me this was normal, he also took the time to call me and put my mind at ease. The whole process took around an hour and a half and I left the surgery feeling absolutely fine. I took painkillers that afternoon but didnt need any others after Day 1. I am now 3 weeks post-surgery and my eyes look amazing. I’ve had no after effects such as dry or watery eyes and my scars are barely visible. I had upper eyelid surgery because I have had issues with drooping eyelids and I can say without hesitation that Hagen was superb throughout! In the initial consultation he went out of his way to describe in understandable terms what the procedure would involve, including the benefits, potential risks, what are realistic expectations, cost, as well as prognosis and what to expect in the downtime after the procedure. There was absolutely no hard sell, he gave me all the information I could want to let me make my own informed decision, after which I decided to go ahead with the operation. Even though I am an anxious type, the procedure went very smoothly and I was able to go home after approximately 90-120 minutes. It was obvious that Hagen was an expert in his field and had years of experience to rely on, which helped me a lot during the procedure. I have had an outstanding experience with Amir Sadr at Bella Vou from start to finish. Firstly, at my initial consult, which was free of charge, and not hurried at all. Amir answered all my questions and made me feel really comfortable. He is clearly very passionate about what he does and he will only operate if he feels it is the right thing for the patient. I went on to have a tummy tuck and brow lift at Bella Vou in October 2021, receiving excellent care both on the day (general anaesthetic and an overnight stay), and in the following weeks during the healing process. The surgery was completely painless. Amir talked me through every step and I had confidence that I was in great hands. Bella Vou Cosmetic Clinic in Tunbridge Wells is Excellent!… Upon arrival to the extremely smart exterior, a bell with “Overnight care” sits beside the “Day Bell”, which shows immediately that not just the day clients but the overnight clients are considered just as carefully. Ann, the lovely receptionist greets you and the reception area is calm and the interior fashionable. You are then shown up to the first-floor reception, which again is designed with impeccable taste, where a Patient Experience Lead will offer you a soft beverage and magazine. Your appointed liaison person then greets you…and takes you to see your consultant Dr Rado. Dr Rado’s knowledge and explanation of the procedure was brilliant and Julia was able to find an appointment for me. All health care information was sent electronically (seamless) and the procedure was booked in. On the day, naturally, I was very nervous but again, Dr Rado and his nurse (who kindly held my hand at points which soothed my nerves) but the procedure was completed excellently. All aftercare instructions and products were given to me and after 1 week, I returned to have the stitches out… onto the Nurse, with Dr Rado popping in along with Julia to see how I was and also to look at the transformation. Everything is so well thought of here. The perfection of the surgery, combined with the exemplary care and customer service from start to finish is second to none. Thank you Bella Vou

Hagen was professional yet approachable and made me feel at ease from the moment we met at my initial consultation. The clinic is immaculate and all staff were very attentive. I was extremely nervous on the day of my procedure but Hagen and Jade (assisting nurse) were masters at keeping the conversation flowing and before I knew it the procedure was finished. It is exactly 2 weeks today that I had my upper eyelid surgery and my eyes look fantastic. All bruising has completely disappeared. In fact all bruising had disappeared after 7 days. I would highly recommend following the aftercare instructions given as I personally feel that the cold compress helped me heal as quickly as I did. I would also recommend the dissolvable stitches (Hagen only uses these) as I have compared my healing to a friend (same procedure) who had removable stitches and mine healed so much quicker. I cannot recommend this procedure enough to anyone thinking of having it. It really has made such a huge difference and is basically a very quick and pain-free procedure. Just go for it.
