Lip lift TREATMENT OVERVIEW

A Lip Lift is an operation that permanently improves the shape of the lips without increasing the volume. The procedure typically reveals more of the red part (the vermillion) of the upper lip, enhancing the definition of the cupid’s bow and reducing the distance between the nose and the lip to create a more attractive contour. Different techniques are used in order to achieve various results, however the most common procedures are:

  • Bullhorn Lip Lift
A Bullhorn Lip Lift (also referred to as a Central Lip Lift) shortens the space between the base of the nose and the upper lip, making the lips appear fuller and more pronounced. The surgeon makes incisions under the nostrils, in the shape of a bull's horn. The scars are carefully placed within the skin's natural folds and creases so that they are discrete. Skin is removed from just below the margin between the nose and the lip. This exposes more of the red part of the lip and makes the shape of the mouth more appealing.
  • Valentine Lip Lift
A Valentine Lip Lift (also referred to as a Corner Lip Lift) is designed to turn up or lift the corners of a drooping mouth. Depending on your mouth and your anatomy, this may be carried out at the same time as a Bullhorn or Central Lip Lift to prevent the formation of an excessively downturned mouth.
  • Gullwing Lip Lift
The Gullwing lip lift (also referred to as a vermilion lip advancement) augments the lip directly at the border of the mouth (the line between the red part of the upper lip and the skin-coloured area above it). Unlike a Bullhorn or Central Lip Lift, there is no scar underneath the nose. Scars will be concealed within the pigmented portion of the lips.

All lip lift procedures are performed under local anaesthetic. It is done as a day case procedure, meaning you won’t need to stay in hospital overnight.

Your surgeon at Bella Vou will carefully examine the shape and volume of your upper and lower lips and assess your mouth's symmetry and balance. They can advise whether a Lip Lift, surgical augmentation, or the injection of fillers can provide the best results.

If you have a long columella (the area between your nose and your upper lip), the face can look longer and less attractive. The average distance between the base of the nose and the upper lip is around a third of the gap between the lower lip and the bottom of the chin. If there's an imbalance, a lip-lift can restore the correct ratio, enhance the cupid’s bow and make the mouth more aesthetically pleasing.

If the corners of your mouth are downturned, you will probably require a corner Lip Lift. Your surgeon will discuss the options with you in detail to ensure you have the best result possible.

YOUR SIMPLE
5 STEP
JOURNEY

YOUR SIMPLE 5 STEP JOURNEY

Step 1. Free, no-obligation consultation

Bella Vou offers every client a free consultation with an expert, accredited cosmetic surgeon with no obligation to proceed to treatment. The consultation is an opportunity to discuss the concerns you have with your lips, the results you want to achieve, and whether a Lip Lift can help you reach those goals.

The surgeon will carefully examine the shape and volume of your upper and lower lips and assess your mouth's symmetry and balance. They can advise whether a Lip Lift, surgical augmentation, or the injection of fillers can provide the best results.

Bella Vou will always give you an honest and impartial professional opinion. Mr Amir Nakhdjevani says:

‘We make sure that we advise people correctly about whether surgery is right for them. We treat everyone as if they were our family. At Bella Vou, we never pressurise people or try to sell procedures. It's always about giving an honest opinion and honest advice.’

Step 2. Meet your surgeon

You will be offered a further appointment with your consultant before proceeding to Lip Lift treatment. This will give you a chance to find out more about the procedure and to ask any questions you may have.

Step 3. Preparation for Lip Lift surgery

You’ll be given individual pre-operative advice to reduce your risk of infection and help your recovery.

Let your surgeon know about any prescription or over-the-counter medications you take. You may be asked to stop taking aspirin or anti-inflammatory medicines, which can increase the chance of bruising and bleeding. It's essential to stop smoking cigarettes and e-cigarettes, which can slow down the healing process.

On the day of your surgery, you’ll be welcomed to Bella Vou, given a gown to wear and escorted to the state-of-the-art operating theatre. As you'll be awake for your procedure, your surgeon will greet you, explain what will happen, and offer reassurance throughout the operation.

Step 4. What happens during Lip Lift surgery?

After cleansing the skin, the surgeon will inject local anaesthetic, so that the area is completely numb. You will feel some movement and pressure during the procedure, but it will be pain-free.

For a Bullhorn Lip Lift your consultant will make a bull's horn-shaped incision under the nose. They will then excise carefully measured amounts of skin to lift and reshape the upper lip. The surgeon will suture the incisions closed. The stitches remain in place for a week before being removed by the wound care specialist at Bella Vou.

For a Valentine Lip Lift your consultant will make an incision along the border of the lips at the corners. The surgeon will then remove a small triangular section of skin at the corner of the lips. This will cause the lips to turn upwards, rather than downwards. The surgeon will suture the incisions closed. The stitches remain in place for a week before being removed by the wound care specialist at Bella Vou.

For a Gullwing Lip Lift your consultant will make an incision along the red pigmented part of the lip and remove a thin strip of skin is removed just above the upper lip, and the pigmented part of the lip then is pulled upwards, creating the illusion of a more pronounced vermillion (the pink part of the lips). The surgeon will suture the incisions closed. The stitches remain in place for a week before being removed by the wound care specialist at Bella Vou.

Step 5. Recovery from Lip Lift surgery

You will be able to go home on the day of the procedure. Any discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication, and cold compresses will reduce pain and swelling and help with healing. The staff at Bella Vou will carefully monitor your recovery and provide support every step of the way.

After a week, the wound care specialist and nurse will check your scar and remove the fine stitches. At around six weeks, your surgeon will check your progress, and at six months, the nurse and wound care specialist will see you again to ensure that you remain healthy, well, and happy with your results. However, if you have any questions or concerns, the staff at Bella Vou are always on hand to offer support, day and night.
