TREATMENT OVERVIEW
Anti-wrinkle injections are non-surgical treatments that relax facial muscles and smooth lines and wrinkles to refresh and rejuvenate the appearance.
Anti-Wrinkle injections block the chemical mechanism between a muscle and nerve. When precisely injected by an expert practitioner, they are an effective, non-invasive way of reducing the signs of ageing by relaxing facial expressions and smoothing wrinkles.
Bella Vou offers bespoke rejuvenation and comprehensive aesthetic care. The experts will listen to your concerns, perform a detailed examination, and tailor treatments to restore and revitalise your appearance.
In experienced and skilled hands, Anti-Wrinkle Injections are safe, and side-effects are few. Your consultant will discuss all the potential risks and benefits before treatment.
Some bruising or swelling can occur after injections. The injections can reach more muscles than intended. Excess activity or alcohol consumption can contribute to this in the first twenty-four hours after treatment.
Rarely the injections can cause an eyelid to become lazy, or patients feel that they have an overtreated look where the brow is quite immobile. If this happens, the effects are temporary, and subsequent treatments can be tailored to suit individual variations.
People who have had repeated injections can develop antibodies that stop the toxin from having any effect. Very rarely, an allergic reaction could occur.
Anti-Wrinkle Injections are generally safe. However, some people need to take care. If you are known to have an allergy or if you have myasthenia gravis or a similar neuromuscular condition, you should not have this treatment. You should also avoid treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
If you are pregnant, you should avoid Anti-Wrinkle Injections and Fillers. Although it is a very small concentration and injected locally, there is a theoretical possibility of the medications being absorbed into the bloodstream. Therefore, The specialists at Bella Vou advise against treatment if you are pregnant.
The clinic will ask you to sign a form before your treatment that will specify if you are pregnant or not.
Bella Vou has put together a handy list of DOs and DON'Ts to help you have a safe and healthy recovery:
DOs
- Drink lots of water
- Sleep with your head elevated on a couple of pillows.
- Avoid hot drinks straight after for a couple of hours; this can dilate the blood vessels and result in more bruising.
- Use cold packs on the injection sites to minimise the amount of swelling and bruising.
DON’T’s
- Drink alcohol; it can increase the swelling and bruising.
- Lie down or go straight to bed. The Anti-Wrinkle Injections can theoretically trickle to other muscles.
- Do heavy exercise or go to the gym on the same day. This can increase blood pressure and subsequently cause more bleeding and bruising.
- Rub or massage your face
Your consultant can apply topical anaesthetic cream to numb the skin. However, the injections only sting a little, for a short time, so many people choose to have treatment without any anaesthesia.

I live in central London, and for several years had treatment from more than one so called ‘celebrity’ specialist in non surgical procedures in the Harley St. area. I’ve seen Dr. Holmes at Bella Vou for Anti-Wrinkle Injections and tear trough filler. My experience couldn’t be more positive. I’ve previously had Anti-Wrinkle Injections and filler (though not tear trough filler) at another clinic near my home but wasn’t fully satisfied for reasons that I’ll come to. I then had surgery at Bella Vou last year and was so impressed with… well, everything… that I thought I’d try getting my aesthetic treatments done there, too… Tear trough filler was something I was nervous about from a pain perspective, but Dr Holmes used a cannula, and I barely even felt it. In contrast, my previous injector used a syringe for filler and I think this contributed to the discomfort and bruising. Most importantly, the results look fantastic. Very natural, but refreshed. Bella Vou is a 2 hour train or car journey for me, but I’m more than happy to do 4 hours of travel to receive such superior treatment. I can’t recommend Dr Holmes and Bella Vou enough.
