Is this right for me?
If you have had an implant to either enhance or reconstruct your breasts, these can occasionally develop a tightness (contracture). Sometimes a greater size is desired. This will require implant removal and replacement. If a tight capsule has developed around the implant then this will need to be removed and the implant subsequently placed in the newly dissected pocket.
What does this involve?
Our plastic surgeons will assess you to determine if you need to have the implants removed. A general anaesthetic is used to perform breast implant removal. You will need to stay in hospital for one night.
With a capsular contracture, we remove the implants and cut away the capsule. The implants are then exchanged during the same surgery.
However, if you have an infection, then you can not replace the implants straight away until the infection has settled. The implants will be removed and subsequently replaced once you are free from infection.
