At 12 months the scar is usually most of the way to its final look already. By 18 months it's about as good as it gets for most patients, and it keeps softening only slightly beyond that.

How to Minimise Tummy Tuck Scarring
The fading doesn't happen by itself. What you do in the months after surgery makes a real difference to where you end up.

- Protect the scar from direct sun for at least a year, using SPF 50+
- Start scar massage as your nurse shows you at your one-week check

On Bella Vou's side, that structure is built in. There's a one-week wound-care specialist and nurse check, a six-week progress check with our surgeon, a three-month review, and a further nurse and wound-care review at around six months. Once everything is fully healed, typically somewhere between six and twelve months, patients can also be assessed for scar camouflage treatment if a section is still bothering them.
What About Your C-Section Scar?
Often, yes, a tummy tuck can deal with the C-section scar. Because the tummy tuck incision sits low across the abdomen in roughly the same position as a typical C-section scar, the skin carrying the old scar can often be removed in the same operation. You're left with one new line rather than an old one plus a new one on top of it.
That said, it isn't guaranteed for every case. Where your C-section scar sits, how it has healed, and your own anatomy all play into exactly how much of it can be removed. Surgeons also typically advise waiting 12 to 18 months after your last C-section before a tummy tuck. That's precisely why it gets mapped out on your body at consultation, rather than promised from a generic diagram.

Are tummy tuck scars permanent?
Yes, it is a permanent mark. For most people, though, it fades over 12–18 months to a thin, pale line that sits low enough to be covered by underwear or a bikini bottom. Permanent doesn't mean prominent.
How long is a tummy tuck scar?
It depends on the type of tummy tuck, see the table above for the full breakdown. A mini tummy tuck leaves a short scar below the navel only, while a standard full tummy tuck produces a fine hip-to-hip line. I recently underwent an abdominoplasty and hernia repair with Mr Dr Amir Nakhdjevani. Whilst I didn’t have excessive amounts of loose skin, I had post-pregnancy wrinkling above my belly button, stretch marks, and diastasis (abdominal separation), which meant my abs never really reflected the effort I put in at the gym. Alongside this, Bella Vou’s complimentary consultation service and complete lack of pressure really appealed to me. It genuinely felt as though they put the client first, which isn’t always a given. The clinic itself feels more like a five-star hotel than a medical facility — elegant, spotless, calm and welcoming. Im not going to lie, surgery is a big deal and you have to be an a certain place to get to this point. My case was complex, with a 360 circumferential tummy tuck, muscle repair and hernia repair needed, as well as 4 sites of liposuction, following 40kg/7 stone weight loss. On the assessment I was given a clear treatment plan and fees were transparent from the first meeting with my patient coordinator Stacie… On surgery day the full team were absolutely incredible. I was reassured by my recovery nurse Kelly on what would happen. The anaesthetist also came to meet me to provide details of the surgery plan. Rado then spent extra time on the marking up process to ensure he had a very comprehensive plan during surgery itself. The surgery went very well (Rado removed 8.5kg/1 stone 4lbs of skin/fat) and I was very comfortable in the recovery suite which was equipped with all your requirements (toiletries, robe, towels). Dr Sadr is an incredibly approachable doctor. His attention to detail is excellent and he explained everything very clearly. He listens to any concerns and wants the absolute best result for his patients. The clinic is absolutely beautiful and it felt like a hotel stay rather than a hospital! The nurses and staff were so friendly and helpful. It really does seem like they all enjoy working there and the atmosphere is very positive. The road to recovery is long with a tummy tuck but I have recovered very well and have benefitted from regular check ups and assurance the whole way. I am really happy with my results. I can wear clothes I couldn’t before, and for the first time in 15 years I might just wear a bikini this summer! Would I go back to Bella Vou? Yes definitely. I would recommend to anyone.

I gained 5 stones in both of my pregnancies and breast fed for a year with each baby, and despite lots of hard work in the gym, there was no chance that my body would ever recover. At the age of 40, I have good muscle tone and low body fat (bmi of 20), but all of that was hidden under loose and saggy skin. I also had quite a large separation of my abdominal muscles, which meant my stomach protruded, despite being slim… I booked in for a circumferential tummy tuck, breast lift and implants and had my surgery at the end of November. It was a long operation (around 8 hours) and I stayed overnight at the clinic. There were really, *really* lovely nurses caring for me overnight… I’m 4 months ish post surgery and… my body looks AWESOME. Amir should work for Mattel, because he’s given me a body like Barbie. I’ve never had a body this good – even as an 18 year old my boobs weren’t this symmetrical and perky or my stomach this flat. My only regret is that I didn’t do this sooner. The first time I met Rado I was a shell of my true self. Weighed down by my previous surgery after a cervical cancer diagnosis. I didn’t love myself or my body. In my initial appointment, Amir patiently answered all my questions relating to abdominoplasty… I felt very safe and reassured that the patient’s Interests were put first at all times and above any other considerations. The day of the surgery arrived, and I was looked after by a very friendly, kind and attentive team who were there whenever I needed anything. From stepping foot at Bella Vou I knew this was the right place for me Amir was lovely from the get-go and made me feel at ease and listened to what I wanted so I booked in with him. On the day of my surgery, he made me feel calm and started drawing up on my body, and then It was off to be put to sleep. I had all three done same day… I had some revision surgery at about 15 months after the initial, some liposuction around the flanks, and some additional skin removed from the chest. This was included in my original fee as part of their revision policy, really great that Amir did this additional surgery for me…it really elevated my results especially in the chest area which is now everything I was hoping for, it’s literally removed all sagging whether stood up straight or leaning right over. Hi, I decided to go to Bella Vou after researching my surgeon, Amir Nakhejevani, who is fully qualified with many years of experience. I wanted him to perform my abdominoplasty with liposuction. I found it a very reassuring experience when I first went to Bella Vou and realized how professionally the clinic was set up and how friendly all the staff were…After the procedure, I stayed in Tunbridge Wells for a week to have my daily lymphatic drainage massages. Which was included in the price. I found this to be very helpful and Nikki was not only very experienced but was also very knowledgeable of my procedure. The aftercare was also very good, I do not live very near but if needed, I could always have a video call in addition to visiting the clinic for any concerns I had. Everything was explained in great detail and I could not be happier with the results. A previous surgery had left me with an off centre tummy button and without the shape I was hoping for. I went on to have a tummy tuck and brow lift at Bella Vou in October 2021, receiving excellent care both on the day (general anaesthetic and an overnight stay), and in the following weeks during the healing process. A year later in October 2022 I had an upper eyelid lift (Blepharoplasty) under local anaesthetic walk in/walk out which I am recovering from now. I really cannot fault Bella Vou at all and would recommend them without hesitation… My healing process went pretty smoothly, but even so I returned to have checkups and dressings changed etc. which was very reassuring. After my tummy tuck the area around one stitch did get sore and needed a bit more care. All of this would have been much more worrying had I not had the amazing support of the Bella Vou team.

I got taken into the theatre room and the next thing I remember was waking up…Amir came in to show me my results and I honestly couldn’t believe how I looked. Absolutely life-changing, Amir explained he had been able to remove more skin than he had first thought, the removed skin weighed just under 5lb and my muscle repair was around 4 cm.
