David Sloan, from Hampshire, was in the Royal Navy when he suffered a rugby injury. While recovering, he put on a lot of weight, and after losing it he struggled to get the definition back that he once had. He decided to have Vaser liposculpting in August 2019 at the age of 36. Here he shares his experience with Bella Vou a year and a half on after surgery.
I spent 13 years in the Royal Navy, so I was very fit because of all the training we did, especially while I was playing in the Rugby League for the navy. I had snapped and torn a number of ligaments in my ankle while playing in the league, and I couldn’t train for two years following the injury. During this time, I put on a lot of weight.
After being made redundant from the Royal Navy three years after the injury, my lifestyle changed hugely. I got married, had two children and started working a full-time job that involved a lot of travel. I continued to play rugby and I started learning to kite surf as well, but while my fitness had improved and I’d lost weight since the injury, I didn’t have the definition I once had.
My confidence took a huge knock and I very rarely took my top off while at the beach or even around friends and family. I tried hard to get the definition back, but found it incredibly difficult since I didn’t have the time to train at the gym five times a week. That’s why I started to look at what other options were out there.
I spent a lot of time researching procedures and possibilities online, and this when I came across the Vaser liposculpting procedure. It’s easy to get bogged down with the amount of information and scary stories out there, but I persevered and came across Bella Vou. I read a lot of good reviews about the clinic, so I got in touch.
I spoke to the amazing staff there and booked an appointment to see Amir to talk through my options and how I wanted to look. Amir made me feel extremely comfortable and gave me all the information I needed to make an informed decision. He made sure I was aware of all the possible options, and took time to understand the results I wanted. He was incredibly honest and explained everything in a way that made sense. From the moment I met Amir, I knew I was making the right choice.
Arriving at the clinic, I was obviously a bit nervous, but the pre-surgical experience was very relaxing and calming, which is strange considering what was about to happen! Amir and the team came to see me and I was instantly put at ease. I was made to feel extremely comfortable and relaxed about the whole situation.
Amir explained exactly what was going to happen and at what point. Before the surgery he drew on my stomach, marking out which parts would be removed and explaining how he would shape my body. It looked like I was wearing Thor’s armour! I had general anaesthetic, and it felt like I was only asleep for around 5 minutes before I was awake again and the surgery was complete.
He was incredibly honest and explained everything in a way that made sense. From the moment I met Amir, I knew I was making the right choice.
My post-care experience was absolutely amazing too. The team at Bella Vou and Amir are fantastic at what they do and were always on hand to answer any questions or concerns I had. They were extremely friendly and made me feel like I could contact them about anything, at any time. Best of all, they aren’t just there for you in the weeks after your surgery, but for months if you need them. Even now, almost two years on, they check in to see how I’m getting on.
The recovery time was incredibly quick, and I was back playing rugby and doing watersports just three or four weeks after the procedure.
Since the surgery I’ve felt amazing, my confidence has soared and I can’t believe the results. Getting back to the way I used to look and feel about myself is incredible. I feel comfortable taking my top off at the beach again and I no longer worry about having a beer belly or generally looking out of shape.
It has also had effects in ways that I didn’t expect. I never ate particularly unhealthily pre-surgery, but I also knew I could’ve been healthier. Now I find myself making better food choices, drinking oceans worth of water and being more active than I was, so my whole lifestyle has changed as a result.

In November 2023 I booked a full abdominoplasty and vaser lipo with Amir. I visited for my initial consult and knew straight away that i had found the right surgeon, Amir was compassionate, knowledgeable and extremely professional. Fast forward to the 18th of January and my surgery day, Amir was understanding of how nerve wracking surgery can be and i felt at ease from the moment I walked into the building. I was in theatre a lot longer than planned due to an umbilical hernia and extra muscle repair, Amir is a perfectionist and made sure all was well and to his high standards before finishing the surgery. I’ve had a minor umbilical complication which is unfortunately one of the risks associated with this procedure. But the aftercare I have received from Amir and his team has been second to none and I could not be happier with my results. I look forward to my umbilical correction in a few months. I really cannot thank Amir enough and would recommend him to anyone looking for a cosmetic surgeon.
