Fillers……Treating The Signs Of Ageing

Injectables are fast becoming part of the mainstream make up in 2016. The latest trends are contouring, endless tanned skin and defined lips! There is no longer stigma or shame associated with visiting a cosmetic surgery clinic for a little something here or there, but while botox is popular, fillers are certainly the new way to go and the way of the future!

V-shaped faces with prominent cheekbones and a narrow jaw are associated with the youthful look. Unfortunately with age, skin starts to lose its elasticity therefore creating an O-shaped face instead of maintaining that perfect V. Cheeks start to look empty and your jowls begin to sag into your neck.

Gravity and bone loss are part of the reason for this but the main culprit is collagen. It’s that word you see on so many make up creams and products, the amazing plumping product that gives us youthful looking skin. You may not know this but our body actually manufactures its own collagen and naturally distributes it around the body. The problem is the older we get, the less we make!

As we age, the collagen and superficial fats we produce melt, while the larger fat pockets lose support and begin to sag. These changes, along with weight gain, result in losing definition of the face and creating a more rectangular look as the jowls become more noticeable. The older we get, bone loss causes the brow to droop and is mostly identifiable by the saggy eyelids. The application of mascara can leave some women looking tired and ‘panda eyed’

Changes in the shape of the lower jaw, combined with loose skin create a blunting of the sharp jawline, this is not great for men who are yearning for that youthful, chiseled look!

This all sounds very depressing but there are fillers that can prop those problem areas straight back up again!!

What can Fillers do for you?

Dermal fillers are approved by the Food and Drug Administration and are injected into the skin to help smooth out wrinkles and other soft tissues that have succumbed to the aging process. They are the go-to for treating unwanted wrinkles and folds (dreaded laughter lines, crow’s feet, nasolabial folds), and augmenting the loss of volume in the cheeks and lips. They can do wonders to freshen up your appearance.

Some patients in their 40’s are blessed with great genes and amazing cheekbones so may never notice any significant loss of volume until they are in their late forties. However, most patients will start to notice changes in their thirties and want to delay the aging look using just a very subtle hint of filler.

Our main goal at Bella Vou is to make the patient look and feel refreshed and youthful again. You want to look great and the best you can for your age. Not try and look 20 again!

Fillers can be used in many different areas on the face and there are even differences in the way a doctor would inject a man compared to a woman. Men have chiseled, more clear-cut jaw lines and striking chins whereas women have more pronounced cheek bones.

You’ll notice immediate improvements after treatment with optimal results being apparent up to 2 weeks later — this gives the filler time to absorb moisture and “settle” and also allows time for any common side effects like bruising, swelling, redness and itching to subside.

Our consultant plastic surgeon, Amir Nakhdjevani, uses Juvederm which is extremely popular and long lasting. Depending on where the filler is placed, the outcome can last anywhere between 6 months to 2 years. Eyes are treated differently from smile lines and enhancing ones pout is certainly not the same as cheek plumping! The best thing to do is to come into the clinic to discuss your desired outcome with our consultant.

If you would like to discuss the procedure in more detail or book an appointment contact one of the team at Bella Vou.
