Many women find that a very common result following vaginal delivery is a physical change of looseness of the vaginal canal. Pregnancy and vaginal delivery can result in stretching and subsequent loss of tightness. It is more commonly seen after the second child; having a large baby or undergoing forceps delivery. The overall result is a feeling of looseness and a loss of sensation in this area.
In addition to the looser feeling in the vagina, there are frequently problems with passing urine. Patients are unable to carry out normal or high impact exercises due to the fear of having an accident. The weakened muscles in the vaginal canal and surrounding musculature causes less bladder control and therefore a greater chance of leaking urine.
Other causes are related to post-menopausal changes. Due to a reduced level of secretion, due to reducing oestrogen levels, the vagina can become drier. This can lead to painful intercourse.
Athletes are a third cohort of patients that commonly have these issues. It is the constant pressure on the pelvic floor muscles through running or straining that can result in this weakness.
Is this right for me?
Women of child-bearing age who have had more than one child or a large baby or even undergone forceps delivery finding that a very common result is a physical change of looseness of the vaginal canal and a loss of sensation in this area. In addition to the looser feeling in the vagina, there are frequent problems with not being able to control the need to pass urine. Finding it difficult to carry out normal or high impact exercises due to the fear of having an accident.
What does this involve?
Similar to a smear test, the CO2RE Intima laser is inserted inside the vagina to create tiny wounds that encourage the bodies healing process, reversing any effects from age, childbirth or menopause that may have occurred.
The CO2 laser heats up the tissues. This results in an increase in collagen formation which subsequently causes a thickening of the pelvic musculature and subsequent vaginal tightening.
There is also a subsequent increase in the overall sensation in this area following these treatments. The probe is inserted into the vagina up to the cervix. It is then slowly rotated 360 degrees and then withdrawn 1 cm at a time until the entire vaginal area is treated.
If SUI is being treated as well, then a second pass is carried out, in a similar method but the area is concentrated to the 10 o’clock to 2 o’clock position.
