MAKING YOU, MORE YOU

Chin reshaping surgery, either through reduction or augmentation can me an effective way of improving your self-confidence.

Genioplasty Treatment Overview

Chin reshaping surgery can take the form of a chin enhancement or reduction with the primary aim of achieving facial balance between the chin, cheeks, nose and forehead, resulting in a natural aesthetic appearance.

Chin reduction or enhancement should not be considered in isolation as frequently the best results could require a combination of chin surgery with rhinoplasty, cheek surgery or a brow lift to fully harmonise the facial proportions.

The ideal candidate for a chin reshaping surgery is someone who doesn't like the way their chin looks and feels self-conscious about one or more aspects of it. Often the chin can appear too large or too small and out of keeping with other facial features.

YOUR SIMPLE
5 STEP
JOURNEY

YOUR SIMPLE 5 STEP JOURNEY

Step 1. Free, no-obligation consultation

Bella Vou offers every client a free consultation with an expert.  The consultation is an opportunity to discuss any concerns you have, the results you want to achieve, and whether Chin Reshaping Surgery can help you reach those goals.

Bella Vou will always give you an honest and impartial professional opinion. Mr Amir Nakhdjevani says:

‘At Bella Vou, we never pressurise people or try to sell procedures. It's always about giving an honest opinion and honest advice.’

Step 2. Meet your Surgeon

You will be offered a further appointment with your consultant before progressing to surgery to discuss the chin reduction or enhancement procedure in more detail, as well as details of preparation and recovery.

Step 3.  Preparation for Chin Reshaping Surgery

The staff at Bella Vou will advise you on any pre-operative preparations to reduce your risk of infection and help your recovery.

You may be asked to stop taking aspirin or anti-inflammatory medication, which can increase the risk of bleeding. It’s important to stop smoking cigarettes and e-cigarettes, which can impede the healing process.

You will be advised about the time to start fasting, should you require a general anaesthetic for your surgery.

On the day of your surgery, you’ll be welcomed to Bella Vou and checked into one of our beautifully appointed recovery suites before being escorted to the state-of-the-art operating theatre.

Step 4. What happens during Chin Reshaping Surgery?

The detail of what will take place during your chin surgery will vary depending on what you’re looking to address.

Chin Reduction

For a chin reduction requiring the removal of some chin bone (a horizontal reduction genioplasty) a small incision is made inside the lower lip through which the chin bone is recontoured to the desired shape. For a reduction requiring the chin bone to be slid backwards (a sliding genioplasty) a small incision is made inside the lower lip and the chin bone is cut and slid backwards into the desired position. Once in place small titanium plates and screws are used to fix the bone into place. The incision is then closed using dissolvable sutures that don’t need to be removed and no scarring is visible.

The Consultant Plastic Surgeon will go through your specific surgical requirements in great detail during your consultation.

Chin Enhancement or Augmentation

For an enhancement requiring the chin bone to be slid forwards (a sliding genioplasty) a small incision is made inside the lower lip and the chin bone is cut and slid forwards into the desired position. Once in place small titanium plates and screws are used to fix the bone into place. The incision is then closed using dissolvable sutures that don’t need to be removed and no scarring is visible.

For a chin enhancement requiring a chin implant, an incision is made under the chin with the specially designed implant inserted between the bone and muscle. The incision is then closed using dissolvable sutures that don’t need to be removed.

Step 5. How long is recovery from Chin Reshaping Surgery?

The dissolvable sutures don’t require removal and usually take four months to fully dissolve. You can resume light activities in two weeks post-surgery and return to driving 3 weeks post-surgery. Physical work or sports should only be resumed 6 weeks post-surgery.

Bella Vou staff will closely monitor your recovery. A week after surgery, the wound care specialist and nurse will check your scar. Your surgeon will check it again around six weeks after surgery.
