Twenty-two-year-old Olivia from London spent more than a decade feeling self-conscious and insecure about the inner lips of her vulva, until deciding to have labiaplasty in November 2020 to reduce the size of her labia minora. Here she shares her experience.
I’d felt self-conscious about this particular area of my body for as long as I can remember; I even made my mum take me to the doctors to have it examined when I was still in primary school at around 10 years old. Even then, I knew the area looked different to how a lot of other women looked, and I never felt that it “looked right”. From then, I was insecure and desperately wanted something to be done about it. I was even insecure wearing swimming costumes on holiday as a teenager.
As I got older, I learnt and understood that every woman’s body looks different, however I still wasn’t satisfied and for me it was still an issue. I was in fear I’d be judged whenever I was to get intimate with someone, and it made me worry that I’d be insecure for my entire life. I never really spoke to anyone about how I was feeling either as I was worried that people would be judgemental.

When I found out about labia minora reduction surgery and realised that it was quite easily available, I knew that I wanted to go through with it. I debated having it done for a few months, but in the end, I knew I wouldn’t be happy or confident if I didn’t go through with it.
I found out about Bella Vou and Dr Sadr through online research. All the reviews I read were very positive, and the information and patient stories on the website were extremely helpful. After I enquired, the Bella Vou team got back to me promptly and were very friendly. The team I spoke with on the phone and over email were all extremely accommodating and helpful. I was very nervous about the surgery, but the Bella Vou team made it very easy.
My experience in surgery was great all round, even though it was during COVID times. The team was very accommodating when I arrived, and when I got into the treatment room, I was taken through everything that was going to happen. I was very nervous and even insecure about taking my clothes off in front of Dr Sadr, however he made me feel really comfortable. The surgery is extremely intimate, however at no point did it feel invasive and my nerves soon worn off.

I was given a stress ball to use during my surgery which was a great touch and helped a lot. I was given anaesthetic which worked wonders, and I had absolutely no pain during my surgery whatsoever - all you can feel is a little bit of pulling. Dr Sadr was chatty and so friendly throughout the whole surgery, and before I knew it the surgery was done - it’s a very quick procedure.
After my surgery was complete I was looked after until I walked out the door. I was able to take my time and I even got a bag of after-care goodies. I got a call from Stacey from Bella Vou the next day to check how I was doing, which I thought was very thoughtful and I appreciated it a lot. She had looked after me from the first enquiry I made, and I always felt supported.
I have healed very well from surgery and have had absolutely no issues whatsoever. Luckily, I experienced very little pain after and only a small amount of discomfort, as would be expected. The after care is relatively simple and has led to great results for me.

The surgery was very much worth it and I’m glad I went through with it as it has made a massive difference to my life and boosted my confidence enormously. My insecurities used to affect me on a day-to-day basis, and I now feel significantly more confident in my own body, when wearing underwear and swimming costumes and when being intimate with partners. I also feel far more comfortable when wearing certain underwear, as before I would occasionally experience discomfort, especially wearing lacy styles.
I would say that if it’s an area you’re insecure about, and you feel like you won’t feel body confident unless something changes, then definitely go ahead with this procedure. It’s a nerve-wracking experience, but the procedure is painless, the healing process is quick and the team at Bella Vou will make you feel comfortable from start to finish.

In November 2023 I booked a full abdominoplasty and vaser lipo with Amir. I visited for my initial consult and knew straight away that i had found the right surgeon, Amir was compassionate, knowledgeable and extremely professional. Fast forward to the 18th of January and my surgery day, Amir was understanding of how nerve wracking surgery can be and i felt at ease from the moment I walked into the building. I was in theatre a lot longer than planned due to an umbilical hernia and extra muscle repair, Amir is a perfectionist and made sure all was well and to his high standards before finishing the surgery. I’ve had a minor umbilical complication which is unfortunately one of the risks associated with this procedure. But the aftercare I have received from Amir and his team has been second to none and I could not be happier with my results. I look forward to my umbilical correction in a few months.
