Addresses Excess and lax scrotal skin

Is this right for me?

Over time, scrotal skin can stretch and lose the natural elasticity it once had, and as a result cause discomfort in clothing and during exercise.

Excessive sweating and rash to the area is common and can interfere with the activities of the daily living; leaving profound psychological effects on an individual's self-esteem and confidence within their relationship.

If the excess skin is causing excessive hanging of the testicles then an uplift will help.

If you suffer from excessive webbing (add link to scrotal webbing), then the skin on the shaft of the penis and the scrotum should be also addressed.

What does this involve?

This surgery involves a local anaesthetic. The extra skin is removed and the scrotum is hitched up to reduce the overhang. This scar is well hidden and heals well following the surgery.

The procedure lasts about an hour depending on the extent of skin laxity. The scars heal within 10 to 14 days. Patients may find some mild discomfort for 3 to 5 days and are expected to go back to their daily activities and work at 1 week.

You should avoid intercourse and/ or masturbation for at least 4 weeks following the surgery to allow the wounds to heal. Excessive friction in the area can break open the wounds. The wounds tend to reach their maximal strength by 4 - 6 weeks.

If you have excess lax scrotal skin that affects your self-esteem then you can benefit from scrotal reduction. Age is not a factor and if you are concerned about the appearance of your scrotum then the procedure will be suitable to you.

Our extensive album of other men who have recently undergone this procedure with similar concerns to you can help you more closely appreciate your likely results. While everyone heals differently, our aim is your satisfaction. Cosmetic surgery is a balance of both form and function and we are tireless in our pursuit of excellence. During your consultation your surgeon will help you have a clear understanding of your likely results. So while we can't show your final outcome specifically before hand, we will be able to provide you with a reassurance over your expected result.

Having confidence that you are in excellent hands with your chosen surgeon is something that should not be compromised on over either consideration of cost or convenience. Investing time in researching to find the very best surgeon for your procedure through specialist medical review websites, personal recommendation and a thorough private consultation with your surgeon are likely to give you the reassurance every patient should have before proceeding with a procedure. In addition, the surgeon will need to consider the following factors.

First and foremost – what is your overall expectation and if this within the remit of what can be carried out surgically. Your surgeon will discuss this with you in detail and will show you the results you can expect. If they can't show you many other examples from other patients then this could indicate that they may be less experienced in carrying out this procedure.

Secondly, what other factors are present? The quality of the skin, other medical factors, smoking and lifestyle habits will all be influential in determining the outcome. It is not just the surgery or surgeon's talents alone.

With scrotalplasty surgery, this is generally quite bespoke surgery and can involve addressing the webbing, which attaches from the scrotum to the shaft of the penis; removing extra skin on the back of the scrotum to give an uplift; or a combination of the two procedures.

Generally scrotal reduction is a permanent solution. Rarely excess and lax skin can re-occur and a revision surgery may be required.

Usually by 10 to 14 days the wound has healed and the final result will be visible in 4 to 6 weeks once the swelling has settled.

There are several methods of carrying out this surgery. Our surgeons determine the best procedure based on your anatomical concern rather than just doing one method.

If the webbing on the front of the scrotum is a concern, then scrotal webbing reduction will help here. If you have extra skin that causes the scrotum to hang lower, then a scrotal uplift will be more beneficial.

There is some general discomfort for 3 to 5 days after surgery. Supported underwear can help with the discomfort and reduce swelling after surgery.

The scars fall into natural creases and at the join of the scrotal halves. Once healed the scars will be hard to detect.

The treatment will vary depending on what surgery is required at the time of your consultation. Your patient coordinator will prepare for you a quotation that will include all your pre- and post-surgical care along with the surgery and all other costs will be included within this single fee. Finance options are also available to make your treatment more affordable.

Immediately following surgery, the area will be numb for at least 4-5 hours due to local anaesthetic given at the time of your procedure. Following your treatment, you will have some swelling which typically alters the sensation, but this will return once the swelling subsides.

With any surgery there can be a degree of swelling and bruising. With scrotal surgery, your scrotum will swell up and the bruising can spread onto the shaft of your penis and onto your thighs. This is all quite normal.

Due to the location of the genitals, the swelling and bruising takes longer to settle. This is because the drainage in this area is against gravity. You can expect a more definitive result at around 3-6 months from surgery.
