Mons Reduction

The mons pubis, also known as the pubic area or mons, is the fatty tissue located above the pubic bone. The fat in this area can reach a size that makes some women self-conscious and uncomfortable while wearing tight-fitting clothing such as leggings, skinny jeans, swimsuits, underwear, and tight dresses. This can be successfully corrected with surgery.

The accumulated fat in the genital area is sometimes excessive and, furthermore, refuses to disappear when weight is lost. This can cause a shift in the position and shape of the vagina. In such cases, the solution involves reducing the fatty tissue of the mons pubis.

Pubis liposculpture can correct this vaginal displacement and gives the area a more youthful appearance. The procedure is quickly completed (lasting between 30 minutes and an hour) and is usually carried out under local anaesthetic and/or sedation, unless accompanied by further surgery such as more liposculpture, abdominoplasty, etc. In such cases, your surgeon will decide which kind of anaesthetic is appropriate.

Duration 30 mins - 1 hour
Anaesthesia Local Anaesthetic or Sedation
Hospital Stay n/a (unless part of liposuction or abdominoplasty)
Recovery 7 - 10 days (Sexual intercourse after 2 weeks)
Addresses Reduces the sagging skin and tightens remaining muscle and tissue to create an improved appearance

Is this right for me?

The mons pubis is the area under the lower belly and above the genital area. Patients who want this area treated usually have concerns about the pubic area being bulky, saggy or both. Hence, the treatment options depend on what is of concern. Massive weight loss will result in the skin hanging over your genital area. Consequently, this leads to hygiene issues. If you have had a tummy tuck, and this area was not addressed adequately, it might now be more prominent. If any of these issues are a concern for you, then contact our surgeons at Bella Vou to discuss a mons pubis reduction.

Before and after Mons Pubis Reduction

What does this involve?

The treatment varies depending upon the patient’s concerns and anatomy. Therefore, procedures can be under local anaesthetic, local + sedation or general anaesthetic. Liposuction is used to reduce the volume. If in addition to this, the skin is very loose; or there is excess skin, then this will be excised (cut away) also. If only liposuction is indicated, small incisions are made and the fat is removed. If excision is indicated as well, the subsequent scar is placed in the pubic hair line.

What is the recovery like?

You will wear a compression garment for 4- 6 weeks. The area is swollen for atleast 1 week and therefore sitting can be uncomfortable. You will need to avoid any bending or lifting and heavy exercise. After two weeks, you can start light exercise (walking) which will increase to your normal exercise regimen by 6 weeks.
