The best treatment for stretched earlobes

Earlobe Lift – When your lobes are dragging lower than your Monica Vinader drop earrings, the holes so stretched you are at risk of your rings sliding out altogether, it’s time to bring out the hefty guns. Cue some canny reconstructive surgery – not nearly as daunting as it sounds – to stitch everything back together again. There’s a quick consult before the cause of the ‘droopy’ earlobe hole is investigated. It might be an allergy to nickel; it might be general wear and tear. But fixing it is, as they say, simple. The scar tissue from the piercings is removed, then some of the tissue is used to create a new opening, whilst stitching up the holes where the earrings have cut through. A swift jab of collagen to plump up the earlobe and, 20 minutes later, ta da! Your brand-new lobes are protected with small plasters and you are sent home.

PAIN FACTOR: For a surgical procedure, it’s surprisingly painless. Our guinea pig claims not to have felt a thing, thanks to numbing ointment and a local anaesthetic injection.

DOWNTIME: No pain, no throbbing afterwards – in fact, it’s light years better than the ache that follows them being pierced in the first place. You might see a dot of blood on your pillow in the morning, but it’s nothing to be concerned about.

RESULTS: You’ll be back several days later to have the stitches out then there’s a final check to make sure everything is neat and tidy. Studs can be worn over the next two weeks; it is advisable to wait a further four weeks to wear dangly earrings. Make sure that they are 18-carat gold or sterling silver to avoid any irritation.
