Cosmetic Treatments – On Trial

Best treatment for excess baggage

Aqualyx – Maybe you’ve dieted; perhaps you’ve already blown hundreds of pounds on swanky gym memberships. So how come your bottom refuses to morph into the pert little peach you yearn for and your waist snubs every attempt to make it shapelier and slimmer? Is there nothing that can be done, bar liposuction, when those knees of yours remain resolutely chunky? (Not sure how one loses flab from the knees anyway?) Mercifully, there is. And it’s called Aqualyx – the latest body-contouring treatment to wage war on localised fat deposits – and we’re super excited about it. How it works: problem part identified, a naturally occurring fat-digesting enzyme is pumped into wobbly bits via flexible cannulae (the amounts used depends on the surface area, but two incision points – for something the size of your palm – is about normal). Once in, it gets to work breaking down fat cells – liquefying them, so to speak. Your body will dispel the lipids naturally, through the liver. And Voila! Simples.

PAIN FACTOR: Not a comfortable procedure, far from it. There’s anaesthetic in the solution, which can make it sting, though topical numbing cream is an option, half an hour beforehand. On the positive side, the treatment is over quickly – 15 minutes, max.

DOWNTIME: Nothing that should stop you going about your daily routine, however there is significant bruising, redness and swelling. Keep the treated bits under cover for about a week or so, until all looks as it should.

RESULTS: Two to four sessions, six weeks apart, are recommended. Once the course is complete, the wobbly bits are noticeably diminished. And they should stay that way: just as long as you stick to a healthy diet and exercise.
