Is this right for me?
When you have already undergone surgery, you may be worried about having another procedure. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your breasts, if there is asymmetry, a capsule has formed around an implant making them feel hard and look unnatural or if an implant has leaked, then revision surgery can help you again feel normal. Our surgeons will help you to decide whether to proceed by discussing the problems following your previous surgery and to help you understand and set realistic expectations regarding the outcome.
Through a careful and supportive consultation, the specialist will determine what is achievable in terms of breast size and shape and your general health. They will also give you a full explanation of the advantages of revision surgery together with any potential problems that may be associated with the operation. This will allow you to make the right decision for you.
At Bella Vou, the surgeons are experienced at breast revision surgery, if you are a healthy adult, the surgery is a low risk procedure.
What does this involve?
The surgery required will depend on the operation you have had previously, the problems following the procedure and the cosmetic result you wish to achieve. If surgery has left you with unequal shaped breasts or poor, raised or bumpy scars then the breast contour can be adjusted using liposuction or fat transfer while exsising the unsightly scars, which can be performed under local or general anaesthetic (depending on the specific procedure) as a day case procedure.
Implant removal or replacement and excision of capsule from around the implant can be done under general anaesthetic. If a capsule is excised the scar under the breast may need to be extended and if the implant is significantly bigger than the previous one, then the space inside the breast will be expanded. If the implants are smaller, additional surgery may be needed and a breast lift may be necessary to remove excess skin and prevent drooping. You will need to stay in hospital for one night. Implants can usually be exchanged during the same surgery, however, if you have an infection, they cannot be replaced until the infection has settled.
