Can cosmetic surgery help with cellulite and stretch marks?

Are you unhappy with your stretch marks or cellulite and would like to improve the look of your skin to show it off with pride this summer? We’ve come up with some surgical and non-surgical tips and tricks to help improve their appearance.

What causes stretch marks?

Stretch marks are caused by rapid stretching of the skin, which can be caused by sudden weight gain or pregnancy. The most commonly affected areas are the stomach, arms, breasts, thighs and buttock areas. Genetics and skin type can also play an active part.

So how can you prevent stretch marks in pregnancy?

Studies show that by using a skin oil or cream twice a day during your pregnancy can help to keep the skin hydrated and remain supple helping it to stretch without causing damage. Please note that creams and oils containing mineral oils are unsafe during pregnancy.

What treatments can improve stretch marks?

Diet and Creams – Although a good diet won’t affect the appearance of stretch marks, eating healthy and exercising regularly will keep your weight in check and prevent more from appearing. Rapid weight gain is the highest contributing factor in the appearance of stretch marks.

Dermal Roller – is a treatment where a roller with fine needles is rolled over the affected area repeatedly traumatising the skin and encouraging new cell renewal. Vitamin rich and anti-ageing creams and serums are then applied to the area penetrating deeper due to the very fine needle holes. A course of treatments is recommended.

Tummy Tuck – If you are a suitable candidate for a Tummy Tuck, the loose skin that is removed is usually the areas that are most effected by stretch marks leaving you with a flat and stretch mark free stomach.

Arm lift – If you are affected by stretch marks on the under arm area these may be removed when the excess skin is taken from that area during surgery.

Breast Lift / Breast Reduction – If you are affected by stretch marks on the breast area they may be removed when the excess skin is taken from that area during surgery.

What causes cellulite?

Cellulite is also known as dermopanniculosis in the medical field and can be caused by hormones, genetics or a high sugar and high fat diet. Cellulite can affect up to 90% of women in their lifetimes and is usually more prevalent on the buttocks and thigh areas. Cellulite can affect both sexes, but is more commonly found in females.

What treatments can help improve cellulite?

Although there has been no proven treatment to eradicate cellulite, it can be improved through diet, exercise and targeted medical and beauty treatments.

Dermal roller – is a medical treatment where a roller with fine needles is rolled over the affected areas repeatedly traumatising the skin and encouraging new cell renewal. Vitamin rich and anti-ageing creams and serums can then be applied to the affected area penetrating deeper into the skin layers due to the very fine needle holes. A course of treatments is recommended with a qualified professional.

Beauty products – there are many creams on the market that claim to improve the appearance of cellulite, but none have been proven to eradicate them.

Body brushing – body brushing in upward motions with a stiff bristled body brush every morning can help stimulate blood flow.

Diet – reducing your intake of high fat / high sugar foods can help to reduce cellulite and minimise its risk of an increase.

Beauty tip – If you want a quick fix to disguise the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks try a fake tan as they even out the skin tone making them less visible.
