Beating The Bulge

Have you been exercising like crazy and lost a significant amount of weight recently or had a few babies? Then you might have a small (or perhaps not-so-small) problem with excess fat and skin in the abdominal area that just won’t go away. For many of us, battling the bulge through diet and exercise doesn’t always work as effectively as we would like. Unfortunately, the skin and muscles around the abdomen have been stretched so far, they won’t just fall back into place. You may find your stomach may spill out over the top of your jeans, creating an impressive muffin top! This can cause low self-esteem and body confidence issues when choosing what to wear or even being intimate with a partner.

If you are healthy and not expecting to lose a significant amount of weight or have a baby in the near future, then you may have the option to have a tummy tuck! The closer you are to your weight goal the better the tummy tuck results will be.

A ‘Tummy tuck/Abdominoplasty’ is an effective cosmetic surgery which aims to reshape the abdomen area to achieve a slimmer, flatter and more confident you! Tummy tuck surgery has long been a popular choice and new techniques have reduced healing time, making the results far better than before.

What is involved?

Firstly, book a consultation to discuss your expectations and requirements. Your surgeon will discuss what results you are likely to achieve based on your personal situation. The procedure, recovery and costs will also be explained to you. Remember to ask questions, don’t forget that this is major surgery, and one that could dramatically boost your confidence.

Performed under general anaesthetic, the surgeon makes a cut along the bikini like from hip to hip. He will then lift the skin to tighten and, most importantly, repair the stomach muscles by sewing them together. The excess skin is then trimmed off and a new navel is created.

You may also require liposuction as this will help contour and sculpt the waist and love handle area. It will not only make you feel on top of the world, but it will make you look thinner in a swimsuit and tighten your abdominal muscles as well.

Your hospital visit can range from being an outpatient to staying for 3 nights depending on the extent of your surgery. You will have some swelling and slight pain in the first week, so a lot of rest is advised, along with pain medication. It will take you several weeks to fully recover. You may want to go back to work after a couple of weeks which is perfectly acceptable, as long as you do not participate in any strenuous activity.

To protect your new, slimmer look you should maintain a healthy diet along with a daily exercise routine so you don’t undo all of the hard work.
